One of the most prominent ingredients in acne cream gel is benzoyl peroxide. In fact, the latter is found in almost all acne based products (whether gels or lotions).

It is added to acne cream gel usually in a concentrated form (around 5 -10%) and may, in some instances, lead to drying up or flaking of your skin (particularly sensitive skin types).

Acne cream gel can help dissolve the keratin present within the skin which blocks the pores and leads to acne formation. Keratin is produced in the skin in abundance particularly during puberty, given the random and high level of hormonal imbalance and activities going on in young male and female teenagers.

Keratin can also lead to the blockage of pores due to oil production in excess, dead skin formation, dirt and impurities on the skin and fluids from sebaceous glands. All this can be kept at bay by using acne cream gel.

The benzoyl peroxide in acne cream gel also acts as an oxidizer which can easily eliminate the bacteria in the skin which may lead to acne vulgaris.

Acne cream gel also include topical antibiotics (a common form of prescription given by dermatologists to treat acne conditions) such as clindamycin which as per medical researches (including PubMed Central) is as good as other natural alternatives available in the market to treat acne related problems.

Acne cream gel can also be purchased in an alternative form which is comprised of Vitamin B3 and is deemed as a topical niacinamide based skin product.

In treating acne vulgaris, it was revealed by PubMed research (as published in an article) that 4 percent of nicotinamide gel was equivalent to 1% of clindamycin as far as effectiveness is concerned.  However, the use of nicotinamide gel was recommended more than the clindamycin as the latter’s inconsistent use may cause antibiotic resistant elements to re-emerge.

Acne cream gel is composed of various topical agents which are mixed with benzoyl peroxide to improve its effectiveness for acne based conditions. Other ingredients commonly added to acne cream gel includes tea tree oil and salicyclic acid (as commonly used in acne blemish sticks).
