Bodybuilders and people that are really into fitness and working out spend a lot of time at the gym working up a sweat. This in itself can cause breakouts on the skin due to clogged pores and the transference of bacteria from gym equipment to open pores causing infections and pimples. Another aspect of body building that can play havoc with the skin is diet and supplements.

A body builder will aim for a high protein diet that will keep the body strong and help build muscles but a diet that is very high in protein and lower in sugars such as fruit and colorful vegetables will be lacking in essential vitamins that the body needs to detoxify the skin. Also a diet that consists of a lot of meat can cause a build up of toxins in the body that will show on your skin with blackhead congestion and pimples.

Steroids is another big problem among body builders the pressure to compete and make every minute in the gym count is a big pressure among the body building community this in turn leads a lot of people to use steroids to maximize there potential. Steroids play havoc with your body and your hormone levels and one of the major side effects of increased testosterone levels is acne breakouts on the face, back and chest areas.

This is hormonal acne and can’t be treated by over the counter medicine it can only clear up when the hormones are returned to normal levels in the body. The supplements
that are available to help people maximize there time and effort in the gym are widely used by gm goers not only body builders, these supplements too have an effect on hormones and your skin. If you read the back label of any of these products you will see “may cause acne” as a side effect so be careful if your concerned about your skin these supplements can make acne worse or cause a breakout in normally clear skin.

The only way to keep acne at bay is too normalize your hormone levels if you are already taking supplements or steroids stop now and you will notice immediate effects. Also skin congested with blackheads and pimples is usually due to a build up of dead skin cells that are blocking the pores therefore the oil produced by your sebaceous glands us being trapped inside the pores causing unattractive blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. You need to unblock pores to stop this cycle. Firstly get a good cleanser, toner and oil free moisturizer that’s suitable for oily skin.

Use these products morning and evening keeping the skin bacteria free as much as possible especially while working out as the pores are open and prone to infections and blockages. Use a mild exfoliater 2 to 3 times a week on the effected areas to help clear dead skin cells and promote new skin regeneration. Lastly use a moisturizing product that contains Salicylic acid on the congested areas as this will help exfoliate dead skin cells deep down in the layer of the skin while keeping the skins moister level balanced.
