Large pores make the skin look older and less clear as it could be. Pores that are open and enlarged don’t look attractive and can get clogged with sebum and dirt resulting in blackheads and pimples. The usual areas that get affected by large or open pores are the nose, forehead and chin also known as the T-zone. It is quite a technique to get rid of these open pores take it from someone who has tried and tested every cleanser, exfoliator and toner on the market only to notice a slight improvement and all goes back to square one if you use any product like a foundation or fake tan that doesn’t agree with your skin. I thought it was all a lost cause and obtaining clear milky skin was just a pipe dream when I came across a new procedure that promised to shrink my pores! Too good to be true? Maybe, but I did a bit of research on the subject and this is what I came up with.
To know how the procedure works you must first know why pores enlarge. When the oil glands under the skin produce more oil then usual the pore becomes over loaded and with oil and can stretch out enlarging the pore to make it more visible on the face. This occurs in people with oily skin but can also occur as a sign of aging in older people. When we age the collagen that supports our skin and gives it that plump youthful appearance is produced less
which makes our skin lax and droopy which stretches the skin and the pores making them larger in all areas of the face not just the T-zone. Combined laser therapy as it is called aims to rebuild lost collagen which will plump out the skin therefore squeezing the pores making them tighter and more fresh looking.
Combine laser Therapy is a two step process that involves a Non ablative 1540 or 1440 Fractional Erbium Laser to treat the skin. The laser goes deep into the layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production have an immediate effect on the skin tone. This requires an anesthetic and you will require up to 3 treatments at 30 minutes per treatment. Step 2 will involve a 2940 Ablative Fractional Laser Resurfacing and this will be performed at your last session. This is a laser skin peel but unlike the older more harsh skin peels the skin will be red and sensitive for just 5 days.
If you find this all a bit too much then you can try alternative treatments such as oil reduction washes. These treatments are aimed to reduce the over production of sebum in certain areas of the face. Brevoxyl washes are used in conjunction with microdermabrasion (extensive skin exfoliating treatment) and Retin A and Accutane treatments to boost skin renewal. These are not used at the same time as the above laser treatments but instead of, they are milder to the skin so may be used as a first option to see how well it works.
