I am 40 years old and I am getting large cystic acne all over my face. What can I do to get rid of it?

Cystic acne is very severe as the name suggests large cysts develop under the surface of the skin. Cystic acne is better described as Nodular acne. This from of acne is usually inflamed and infected. This form of acne is less common than the typical Papul form of acne and is quite painful. The infection starts because excess sebum is built up through the follicles and mixes with dead skin cell that haven’t been exfoliated and builds to for bacterial build up under the skin that forms a lump and eventually is expelled onto the surface of the skin.

Cystic acne can affect the face, the chest in men, back shoulders, underarm and even the buttocks. These cysts are soft puss filled sores about 3mm in diameter. Nodular acne is more painful with larger harder lumps forming on the skin. The soreness of cystic acne is similar to sun burn or a cigarette burn. The severity of cystic acne will differ form person to person so too will the trigger factors and the periods of reoccurrence.
